" ATLANTA (AP/WAOK) - Some state lawmakers are still having problems paying their taxes on time.

Court records show that nine state legislators owe money on tax liens dating to at least September. And since then new liens have been filed against 14 legislators, their businesses or their spouses.

They owe a total of $92,289 in past-due taxes, penalties and fees.

The tax problems ranged from federal and state income taxes to local property taxes. Some lawmakers claimed they didn’t know about the liens, some blamed the economy and some had no comment.

Critics say they aren’t surprised by the report. Barbara Payne of the Fulton County Taxpayers Foundation says “it kind of sickens me that this behavior continues.” "
