Turner: The MARTA professionals know what they’re doing

" The difference between having MARTA in Clayton County now, versus the transit service of 2010? Clayton County Commission Chairman Jeff Turner says MARTA is the industry expert when it comes to mass transit, “they are the ones that should be doing it, because they know what they’re doing.”

" Funding was the issue four years ago when Clayton County decided not to continue subsidizing its C-Tran bus service. According to Turner, “now we have a dedicated funding source, with the penny sales tax, because there is power in the penny. That will fund MARTA’s operations in Clayton County.” The commission chairman goes on to say, “I see those professionals handling the transit system. That’s where it should have been in the first place.”

On Tuesday, November 4th, Clayton County residents voted, by an overwhelming majority, for the one cent sales tax to join MARTA.

Turner: It was a task, it was a rough ride, but at the end of the day we were able to put it on the ballot
